Author Guidelines
The Video Journal of Rawalpindi Medical University (VJRMU) invites submissions of high-quality educational and research videos from medical students, faculty members, clinicians, and researchers. The journal aims to promote innovation in medical education, research dissemination, and clinical practice through video-based learning.
1. Scope and Focus
VJRMU publishes video articles that cover the full spectrum of medical sciences, including but not limited to:
- Clinical and surgical procedures
- Case presentations and discussions
- Medical and biomedical research
- Innovative teaching and learning methods
- Public health initiatives
- Expert interviews, grand rounds, and seminars
- Health awareness and community outreach programs
2. Types of Submissions
Authors may submit videos under the following categories:
- Original Research Videos: Visual presentation of research with data, analysis, and conclusions.
- Clinical Procedures: Step-by-step demonstrations of surgical or diagnostic techniques.
- Case Reports: Presentation of unique or educational clinical cases.
- Educational Modules: Instructional videos aimed at medical students or trainees.
- Commentaries / Expert Talks: Short discussions by subject experts on medical topics.
- Public Health Messages: Awareness content addressing health issues relevant to the community.
3. Video Specifications
To maintain consistency and quality, authors are requested to adhere to the following technical standards:
- Duration: 5–15 minutes (exceptions may be made for comprehensive topics).
- Format: MP4 (preferred) or MOV.
- Resolution: Minimum 1080p (Full HD).
- Audio: Clear narration with minimal background noise; English or Urdu language is acceptable.
- Captions/Subtitles: Must include English subtitles for accessibility.
- Graphics: Relevant titles, labels, and institutional logos are encouraged.
- Editing: Videos should be professionally edited; ensure patient identity protection and ethical compliance.
4. Accompanying Documents
Each video submission must be accompanied by the following:
- Title Page: Including title, author names, affiliations, and contact information.
- Abstract: 150–250 words summarizing the content and key points of the video.
- Keywords: 3–6 relevant terms.
- Consent Forms: Required for all identifiable patients or participants featured in the video.
- Conflict of Interest Statement: Disclosure of any financial or professional conflicts.
- Ethical Approval: For videos involving human subjects, research data, or clinical trials.
5. Submission Process
- Submissions should be made through the official VJRMU portal or via email to vj@rmu.edu.pk.
- All files should be named clearly (e.g., Procedure_Name_Author_Date.mp4).
- A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of the submission.
6. Peer Review Process
- All submissions undergo initial screening for quality, ethics, and relevance.
- Videos are then reviewed by at least two subject experts.
- The editorial team may request revisions before final acceptance.
- The final decision rests with the Editorial Board of VJRMU.
7. Ethical Considerations
- Ensure patient confidentiality and dignity at all times.
- Obtain written informed consent from all identifiable subjects.
- Avoid unnecessary exposure of identifiable patient information or institutional data.
- Any use of copyrighted material (images, music, data) must have proper permissions.
8. Publication Rights
- By submitting, authors grant Rawalpindi Medical University the right to publish and distribute the video on its official platforms.
- Copyright remains with the author(s), but the video may be used for educational and promotional purposes by RMU with due credit.
9. Citation Format
Each video article will receive a unique citation format and DOI (if applicable). Authors are encouraged to cite the video as follows:
